Water and Sanitation Management Organisation (WASMO), Gujarat

The Water and Sanitation Management Organisation (WASMO) is an autonomous facilitating body established to implement community-managed drinking water supply and sanitation programs in rural areas. WASMO was created as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to bring systemic reforms by shifting the government’s role from provider to facilitator, empowering local communities to manage their water resources. It focuses on community participation, capacity building, water quality monitoring, and sustainable water resource management. WASMO has implemented thousands of village-level water supply schemes and works in coordination with agencies like GWSSB and GWIL.
