Water and Energy Commission Secretariat (WECS) in Nepal was established to develop the country's water and energy resources in an integrated and accelerated manner. Initially formed as the Water and Energy Commission, the permanent secretariat, WECS, was established in 1981. WECS assists the Government of Nepal and various ministries in formulating policies and planning projects related to water and energy resources. It provides recommendations and guidance on multipurpose projects, including irrigation, hydropower, drinking water, and flood management.
