Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), formerly known as Visakhapatnam Port Trust, is one of India’s 12 major ports and the largest on the eastern coast. It serves as a critical maritime hub for cargo movement between Kolkata and Chennai. The port handles diverse cargo including iron ore, coal, crude oil, and containers, with an annual throughput exceeding 80 million tonnes. It has two harbors—Inner Harbour and Outer Harbour—with modern mechanized berths and facilities. VPA is transitioning to a landlord port model, promoting Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) for terminal operations, and aims to become a smart and sustainable port.
