    The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is Ireland’s principal government agency for nature conservation and biodiversity. It is responsible for managing the country’s national parks, nature reserves, and protected areas, including Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs). NPWS also oversees the implementation of EU directives and international agreements related to wildlife and habitats. Originally part of Dúchas, it was restructured in 2003, playing a vital role in environmental policy, scientific research, education, and enforcement of wildlife legislation.
