    The National Hydrographic Office also known as The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD) is the nodal agency for Hydrographic surveys and Nautical charting in India. It has a very well-established organizational setup and operates eight modern survey ships, including a Catamaran Hull Survey Vessel (CHSV), all equipped with the latest surveying technology. Initially, it was erstwhile Marine Survey of India established in 1874 at Kolkata, in 1954, the Marine Survey of India was relocated to its present office at Dehradun and was renamed Naval Hydrographic Office, The office in recognition of its national mandate and international stature was rechristened as National Hydrographic Office In 1997.
