Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India deals with the development and maintenance of National Highway and Road Transport in the country. Its vision is to achieve increased connectivity and rapid mobility to a level that accelerates socio-economic development and to have a road infrastructure that is sustainable, efficient, safe, and of internationally comparable quality, with a focus on National Highways infrastructure in particular. It was initially known as the Department of War Transport, which was created by bifurcating the Department of Communications. Over the years, it underwent several changes and reorganizations.
