Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, India encompasses within its fold ports, shipping, and waterways sectors which include shipbuilding and ship-repair, major ports, national waterways, and inland water transport. It has been entrusted with the responsibility to formulate policies and programs on these subjects and their implementation. It was initially formed as the Department of War Transport in July 1942, and over the years, it underwent several changes and reorganizations. It became the Ministry of Shipping in 2009 and finally renamed the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in 2020.
