Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) deals with matters related to the Earth's natural processes and phenomena. The primary objective is to understand various aspects of the Earth's processes and provide reliable information for effective decision-making in areas such as weather forecasting, climate monitoring, oceanography, seismology, and polar science. The Department of Ocean Development (DOD) was created in 1981, then it was notified as the Ministry of Ocean Development in 2006, finally it was reorganized into the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) with a merger of the India Meteorological Department, the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Earth Risk Evaluation Centre, and the Ministry of Ocean Development.
