It provides the policy framework and resources to the Armed Forces to discharge their responsibilities in the context of the defence of the country. It also oversees the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Department of Military Affairs (DMA).
