Home Department, Gujarat

The Home Department of Gujarat is a key administrative wing of the state government, responsible for maintaining law and order, internal security, and public safety. It oversees the police force, prisons, anti-corruption bureau, prohibition and excise, home guards, civil defense, and human rights commissions. The department also handles intelligence, passport and visa matters, and disaster management. Established during the formation of Gujarat on 1 May 1960, it initially combined home, information, and civil supplies functions, later evolving into a dedicated department.
