Forest Survey of India (FSI)

    The Forest Survey of India (FSI) is a premier national organization that is responsible for conducting comprehensive surveys and assessments of India’s forest resources. It publishes the biennial India State of Forest Report (ISFR), which provides detailed data on forest cover, vegetation, and ecological health. FSI also monitors forest fires, conducts forest inventories, and supports decision-making through geospatial technologies. Originally established as the Pre-Investment Survey of Forest Resources (PISFR) in 1965, it was reorganized as FSI in 1981 to meet evolving data needs.
