The Department of Land Resources (DoLR) plays a crucial role in the planning and management of land resources across the country. It aims to ensure sustainable improvement in the productivity and livelihood/income potential of land, especially rainfed land holding areas and cultivable wasteland, and to develop an appropriate integrated land information management system that will inter alia improve real-time land-related information, optimize land resources, and assist in policy/planning. The National Wasteland Development Board (NWDB) was established in the year 1985, it was reorganized and placed under the newly created Department of Wasteland Development in 1992. Subsequently, it was again renamed as the Department of Land Resources by Gazette Notification dated 09-04-1999.
