Department of Fisheries, India is tasked with the development of the fish feed and fish products industry, including the determination of demand and setting of targets. It promotes and develops fishing and fisheries (inland, marine, and beyond territorial waters) and their associated activities, such as infrastructure development, marketing, exports, and institutional arrangements. The Department also looks after the welfare of fishermen and other fisherfolk, strengthening their livelihoods, and liaises with international organizations on matters related to fisheries development. It addresses issues related to the loss of fish stock due to natural calamities and legislates on the pattern of financial assistance to various state undertakings and fisheries development schemes through state agencies and cooperative unions.
