    Civil Defence Ireland is a volunteer-based emergency response organization that was originally formed in response to the threat of nuclear disaster following World War II. Today, it supports frontline emergency services such as the Garda Síochána, National Ambulance Service, and local fire services. Civil Defence volunteers are trained in medical response, search and rescue, radiation monitoring, emergency response, and communications. With around 2,000–3,500 volunteers, it plays a vital role in disaster relief, community support, and public event safety.
