At the beginning, it was the Office of National Defense Malaria Control Activities, then became Office of Malaria Control in War Areas (1942–46), then became Communicable Disease Center (1946–67), then became National Communicable Disease Center (1967–70) and finally it was renamed as Center for Disease Control in 1970.
