The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) is established to lead the country’s response to HIV/AIDS. It was created to implement the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), which began in 1992. NACO coordinates with 35 State AIDS Control Societies and various stakeholders including NGOs, healthcare providers, and international partners. Its mission includes prevention, care, support, and treatment of HIV/AIDS, along with reducing stigma and discrimination. NACO also promotes awareness, safe practices, and access to testing and treatment services.
