The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent Australian Government statutory agency responsible for planning and managing the water resources of the Murray–Darling Basin in the national interest. Established under the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the MDBA develops, implements and reviews the Murray–Darling Basin Plan, operates the River Murray system, and monitors the condition, quality and use of Basin water resources. The Authority is supported by specialist divisions covering Basin planning, science and knowledge, river operations, water compliance monitoring, stakeholder engagement, First Nations partnerships, data and reporting, working closely with Basin state governments and communities.
