It is responsible for research, technology, and services across five key domains: the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere. MoES aims to provide accurate forecasts and sustainable management of marine resources. Initially established in 1981 as the Department of Ocean Development (DOD), it underwent a series of transformations. In 2006, it was renamed the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
