Ministry of Defence is the federal institution responsible for national defence and the armed forces of Belgium. Its core mission is to protect the country’s sovereignty and population, contribute to international peace and security, and support civil authorities during crises. Belgian Defence operates both domestically and internationally, with deployments under NATO, EU, UN, and coalition mandates. The organisation applies a “single‑structure” model comprising five forces: the Land Component, Air & Space Component, Naval Component, Medical Service, and Cyber Force, under the authority of the Chief of Defence.
