Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) is a Central Public Sector Enterprise responsible for implementing the East-West Metro Corridor Project in Kolkata. It is responsible for planning, construction, and commissioning of the metro line connecting Salt Lake Sector V in the east to Howrah Maidan in the west, including India’s first under-river metro tunnel beneath the Hooghly River. The project aims to provide a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly urban transport system, reducing congestion and pollution in Kolkata. KMRCL also ensures integration with Indian Railways terminals at Howrah and Sealdah, making it a critical component of the city’s transport infrastructure.
