    National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP) is one of the fourteen natural resource management (NRM) institutes of the ICAR entrusted to conduct research and development activities mainly in the areas of soil survey, pedology, geomorphology, remote sensing, geographic information system, cartography, land evaluation, and land use planning. All India Soil Survey Organisation, established in 1956, was restructured in 1969, dividing its research and developmental activities between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Department of Agriculture. In 1976, it became an independent ICAR institute known as the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP).
