The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) serves as the state’s nodal body for statistical coordination, data collection, and socio-economic analysis. It plays a critical role in compiling development indicators, conducting surveys, and publishing economic reports such as the State Economic Survey. It ensures accurate data for planning, policy-making, and monitoring government programs. The Directorate also functions as the Chief Registrar of Birth and Death under the Registration Act, 1969. Operating through district-level offices and eight divisions, DES provides statistical support to government departments, researchers, and planners, contributing to evidence-based governance and socio-economic development in the state.
