    Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, India is responsible for formulating and implementing policies and programs for achieving growth and development of the chemical and petrochemical sectors in the country and fostering the spirit of public-private partnership for the overall development of the industry. It has five major divisions viz. Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Administration, Statistics & Monitoring (S&M) and Economic Division. The Department was initially under the Ministry of Industry, after that it was brought under the Ministry of Petroleum and Chemicals. Finally, in 1991, the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals was finally transferred to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.
