Brief on Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), India

The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) was created to modernize and professionalize policing in India by replacing the earlier Police Research and Advisory Council (1966). BPR&D focuses on research, training, correctional administration, and the application of science and technology in policing. Over the years, it has expanded to include divisions like Training, Correctional Administration, and the National Police Mission. BPR&D also operates multiple Central Detective Training Institutes and Police Academies across India. Its mission is to promote excellence in policing through innovation, capacity building, and policy development .
