Visualizing Insights for Fertilizer in African Agriculture (VIFAA) – Ghana Cropland Mapping and Geospatial Intelligence for Agricultural Productivity

Source: Development Gateway
The VIFAA Ghana project, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, aims to bridge a critical data gap in national fertilizer consumption by producing accurate, high-resolution cropland maps across Ghana. Implemented by Development Gateway and Africa Fertilizer and technically executed by Quantitative Engineering Design (QED), the project leverages satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, and field-validated datasets to estimate cropland area. By integrating satellite-derived cropland data with fertilizer pricing and plant directories, the initiative offers a powerful geospatial intelligence tool that supports evidence-based fertilizer planning, agricultural investment, and crop monitoring.
