    Project Details

    The States of Guernsey embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to construct an all-tide access marina in St Peter Port Harbour. This ambitious project aimed to address the challenges posed by the tidal limitations of existing marinas. Fugro was engaged to perform a comprehensive site investigation (SI) to assess the harbour’s geotechnical and geo-environmental conditions, enabling informed decision-making for breakwater and dredging strategies.

    Fugro employed a multi-faceted approach that included advanced sonic drilling techniques, precise scheduling to accommodate tidal and marine traffic constraints, and efficient data delivery through the VirGeo® platform. The investigation involved the completion of 12 boreholes and 10 sonic drilling operations, replacing less suitable vibrocore methods to ensure maximum data recovery and quality. Despite the complexity of the site, which included over 5 km of mooring chains and anchor blocks, the project was completed within the fixed seasonal operational window, aligning with community and operational requirements.

    This project not only enabled crucial insights into the harbour's subsurface conditions but also showcased Fugro's innovative approach to minimizing disruptions while delivering superior geotechnical data.
