    Project Details

The Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) is exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can be integrated into remote sensing to enhance geospatial data processing, primarily through the automated evaluation of satellite images. The project focuses on improving the quality and efficiency of land cover classification by distinguishing between different types of land use (e.g., forest vs. agriculture) using AI-based pattern recognition. The project also investigates AI’s potential to streamline data storage and retrieval, specifically using data cubes, which enable efficient handling of large raster datasets over multiple time periods. Through this initiative, BKG will develop internal AI expertise and build a framework for the federal government’s AI strategy.
