The Government Land and Property Asset Management Programme in Northern Ireland (NI) aims to create the most comprehensive, centralised geospatial database of all government-owned and occupied land and property assets. This database spans 135 distinct fields of information per asset and uses a unique Fusion ID—a 36-character globally unique identifier assigned to each mapped asset by Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland (OSNI). By meticulously researching and consolidating information scattered across numerous departmental databases, the team located and mapped each asset—whether a building or land parcel—ensuring each is digitally represented and uniformly identified. To bring this data to life, a secure web application was built, enabling departments to access, analyse, and generate reports based on real-time asset information. To strengthen transparency and promote public trust, a simplified, non-sensitive dataset is published via the OpenDataNI portal, making it available to citizens, researchers, and businesses.
