    Project Details

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has revolutionized infrastructure development by transitioning to an all-digital workflow across its construction projects. By integrating BIM and GIS technologies, UDOT eliminates traditional paper-based processes, creating a real-time digital twin for infrastructure assets.

Digital delivery begins with BIM models, which maintain detailed design data throughout project lifecycles. GIS complements this by providing geographic context and enabling dynamic visualization of project elements. Inspectors now use GIS-based apps to record inspection details, ensuring immediate data availability for contractors and project managers. This real-time access improves sequencing, eliminates redundancies, and minimizes delays.

Pilot projects have demonstrated the efficiency of digital workflows, and UDOT is scaling these practices enterprise-wide, supported by FHWA grants for workflow documentation and data standardization.
