    Project Details

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) initiated a groundbreaking data collection project that revolutionized asset management in the transportation industry. The project involved the use of mobile LiDAR technology to gather a wide variety of roadway assets along UDOT's 6,000+ center lane miles of state routes and interstates. The project's primary goal was to gather the most data possible economically while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality. The UDOT used LiDAR technology to create a high-resolution elevation model of the state, which they then used in conjunction with Esri GIS to manage their assets. This has allowed them to locate and manage assets such as signs, signals, and guardrails more accurately.
