    Project Details

The Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) adopts an innovative approach to wastewater management, utilizing geospatial technologies to address complex environmental challenges. Serving 1.7 million people across southeastern Virginia, HRSD faces pressures from sea-level rise, storm events, and water quality degradation. In response, HRSD initiated the Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT), a USD 1.2 billion program aimed at replenishing depleted aquifers and enhancing environmental resilience.

By integrating GIS, BIM, and sensor technologies, HRSD has transformed its operations, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and virtual simulation of wastewater infrastructure. These advancements not only enhance operational efficiency and regulatory compliance but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of wastewater management practices in the region.
