In 2019, the catastrophic failure of a tailings storage facility in Brumadinho, Brazil, resulted in a tragic loss of life and severe environmental damage, prompting urgent calls for enhanced safety measures and oversight. In response, the Investor Mining & Tailings Safety Initiative was formed, led by ethical investors committed to promoting sustainable practices within the mining sector.
