    Project Details

The Netherlands Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency (Kadaster) initiated an accessibility-driven project to create tactile maps that empower blind and visually impaired people to navigate geographical information through touch. These tactile maps, produced using official geospatial open data and integrated with Braille, reduce dependency on costly commercial products while ensuring inclusivity. By leveraging the EuroRegionalMap dataset, the project allows the Netherlands’ production process to be replicated across other European countries seamlessly. The approach emphasizes user-driven design, ensuring that the tactile symbols, textures, and Braille align with the needs of visually impaired users.
