The State Authority for Geospatial Information (ASIG), in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), successfully developed a 1:2,000 scale topographic digital map covering 300 km² in the Tirana–Durrës area. This region, being the most urbanised and economically active in Albania, faced challenges of rapid demographic movement, irregular development, and infrastructure pressure. The project provided Albania with an accurate geospatial foundation to support sustainable land development, feasibility studies, environmental management, and long-term planning. Importantly, the project included technology transfer and capacity-building programs, equipping ASIG with enhanced skills in photogrammetry, data accuracy, and geospatial quality management.
