    Project Details

    An Australian city council embarked on a comprehensive tree-planting initiative aimed at enhancing the natural environment and improving the health and well-being of its residents. To achieve the maximum impact, the city needed an accurate inventory of existing trees, including those on private property and non-municipal lands, to identify areas that required additional tree cover. Leveraging a recent airborne LiDAR survey, the city used the ENVI image analysis package with the Deep Learning module from NV5 Geospatial to automate the identification and analysis of trees across the city. The technology allowed for rapid, accurate counting of existing trees, differentiation by height, and calculation of canopy cover, which was essential for targeting new tree planting efforts.
