Smart Environmental Oversight: Digitalizing Reservoir Inspection with GIS Cloud Solutions

Socioambiental Consultores Associados, based in Florianópolis, Brazil, undertook a major project for Socioambiental and Patrimonial Inspection (FASP) of the Itá and Machadinho Hydroelectric Plants’ reservoirs along the Uruguay River. The primary objective was to inspect the Permanent Protection Areas (PPAs) of these reservoirs to identify and address irregularities such as unauthorized occupation or environmental degradation.

Transitioning from paper-based methods to a digital GIS Cloud solution, the team utilized mobile devices to collect real-time field data with custom forms. This data was instantly published to the GIS Cloud Map Editor, enabling immediate visualization and analysis. The digital workflow significantly improved efficiency, reduced errors, and facilitated real-time collaboration among stakeholders. Sharing insights with contractors and team members was seamless, making data access possible from any device. This innovative approach redefined how reservoir inspections were conducted, providing actionable intelligence for preserving natural resources.
