    Project Details

In response to the Alaska Department of Transportation’s (DOT) urgent need for detailed mapping of affected area following the Mendenhall Glacier flood, Frontier Precision deployed state-of-the-art drone and LiDAR technology to survey the affected area in Juneau, Alaska. This flooding event, caused by an unusual combination of warm temperatures and heavy rainfall, led to significant runoff from glacier, resulting in property damage, and disruption to the community.

The project encompassed a 1,200-hectare (3,000-acre) survey area, with data collection completed in a remarkably short duration of six hours over two flights. The Quantum Systems Trinity Pro and Alta X drones equipped with YellowScan Voyager LiDAR technology provided high-density point clouds with 160 points per square meter, offering unparalleled detail of the terrain. This data enabled the creation of high-resolution elevation models critical for assessing flood impacts, disaster response, and future flood risk mitigation planning.
