Primo Principio, an Italian cooperative specializing in ICT-based agro-environmental solutions, has launched a project aimed at improving vineyard management through precision irrigation and disease control in Italy’s challenging climate. By integrating EOSDA Crop Monitoring with its own weather station-based data, Primo Principio provides vineyard farmers with precise insights on water stress and potential disease risks. The system sends customizable alerts via WhatsApp or email, guiding timely and accurate irrigation and treatment applications. For even more targeted management, Primo Principio provides farmers with “prescription maps,” which use NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and NDMI indices to visually pinpoint specific field zones requiring attention. The maps assist farmers in irrigating and treating only the necessary areas rather than the entire field, thereby optimizing resource use, reducing costs, and protecting crops from disease. With 30 clients and fields ranging from 0.17 to 104 hectares, Primo Principio is leading Italian viticulturists toward higher yields and more sustainable practices.
