    Project Details

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) and Maxar Technologies collaborated to enhance wildfire management in Ontario's remote northern communities by integrating high-resolution satellite imagery with GIS. Confronted with challenges such as outdated maps and limited road access, OMNR's Aviation and Forest Fire Management (AFFM) branch utilized Maxar's imagery to improve fire prevention, containment, and emergency response strategies. By orthorectifying the imagery and integrating it with comprehensive vector data layers, including critical infrastructure and environmental features, OMNR significantly enhanced situational awareness and operational efficiency. This case study underscored the value proposition of geospatial technologies in safeguarding lives, property, and natural resources against the threat of wildfires, while also emphasizing the cost-effective and scalable nature of these solutions.
