    Project Details

As global climate changes intensify, the risk of natural disasters, particularly severe flood events, is on the rise. In 2022, Australia's east coast, notably Sydney, experienced unprecedented flooding, leading to the displacement of tens of thousands of people and significant damage to homes and businesses. Such events are projected to become more frequent, necessitating comprehensive disaster response and mitigation strategies. To address this challenge, a project was initiated to map flood-impacted areas in Brisbane and southeast Queensland, Australia, during the February and March 2022 floods. This endeavor employed a multi-sensor approach, incorporating optical, imaging radar, and night-time light data to delineate flood extents and assess changes in human activity.
