Modernizing Water Distribution Management: GIS Transformation for Indio Water Authority

Source: Esri
Indio Water Authority (IWA), serving 85,000 residents across a 38-square-mile service area, undertook a comprehensive modernization of its GIS platform to ensure efficient and reliable water resource management. IWA transitioned from ArcGIS Desktop and geometric networks to the cutting-edge ArcGIS Utility Network. This migration enhanced its data management and integrated its water distribution geodatabase with Cityworks ASM for maintenance and operations.
The transformation included redesigning workflows to align with the new GIS capabilities, optimizing asset management processes, and incorporating Neptune metering data for advanced consumption analysis. By enabling automated updates of 30,000 records nightly and providing mobile access for field teams, the solution significantly streamlined operations. With real-time dashboards in ArcGIS Enterprise, IWA leadership gained enhanced visibility into system performance, enabling better decision-making and faster responses to field issues.
The modernization project was a collaborative effort involving experts from engineering, customer service, finance, and operations, ensuring alignment across all aspects of water resource management.
