The ‘Improving Spatial Data Services in the Republic of Moldova following EU standards’ project, funded by the European Union, has fundamentally modernised Moldova’s approach to managing and sharing spatial data. Over three years, the Agency for Geodesy, Mapping and Cadastre of the Republic of Moldova worked with a consortium of EU partners—including Croatia’s State Geodetic Administration, Poland’s Head Office for Geodesy and Cartography, and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency—to align Moldova’s spatial data infrastructure with European standards. At the heart of the project is the national geoportal (https://inds.gov.md), providing a single, streamlined point of access to spatial data for ministries, state agencies, academia, and private sector users. Beyond technology, the project updated the legal framework, developed NSDI strategic documents, and strengthened institutional capacity through expert technical support and targeted training, thereby empowering staff to manage and use spatial datasets more effectively.
