LiDAR-Based Geospatial Transformation for Flood Mitigation and Environmental Resilience in North Macedonia

Source: GIM International
This project employs LiDAR technology to generate high-resolution, accurate digital elevation models (DEMs) to support flood risk assessment, infrastructure planning, and environmental conservation in North Macedonia. By capturing ground details beyond satellite capability, LiDAR enables precise mapping of both the bare earth structure and above-ground features, such as buildings and vegetation. This comprehensive dataset is invaluable for flood risk mitigation, flood monitoring, spatial planning, and the cost-efficient design of infrastructure projects. Furthermore, a dedicated LiDAR portal was established to provide public access to this valuable data, supporting broad-based efforts to address climate change, improve disaster resilience, and foster sustainable development.
