National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has been tasked with a transformative project: delivering a nationwide full-fibre broadband network within seven years to 1.1 million rural citizens across Ireland. This involves connecting 537,596 rural properties, including 54,000 farms and 679 schools, ensuring equitable digital access. To design and execute this ambitious project, NBI leverages Prime2, Ireland’s authoritative geospatial framework, which integrates detailed land, infrastructure, and boundary datasets. Designers at desktops can prepare accurate initial network plans, while engineers in the field validate and implement them, all working from the same authoritative data. Prime2’s comprehensive coverage of roads, poles, private property boundaries, and municipal districts ensures efficient planning, accurate asset deployment, reduced duplication of efforts, and increased safety for field operations. By relying on consistent, high-quality geospatial information, NBI is modernizing Ireland’s rural digital infrastructure at an unprecedented scale.
