The Geospatial Information Section of the United Nations, functioning as Co-Secretariat of the UN-GGIM, has undertaken a critical initiative to integrate authoritative, harmonised geospatial datasets for supporting peacekeeping, crisis management, sustainable development monitoring, and global governance. At the heart of this initiative lies the use of EuroRegionalMap, a pan-European multi-themed dataset created from official mapping, cadastral, and land registration authorities of 31 European states. By embedding these datasets into the UN Geo-Hub platform, the project ensures a consistent representation of global geographies, enabling the UN Security Council, the Office of the Secretary-General, and other UN entities to rely on trusted and quality-controlled spatial information. This data not only supports crisis response, such as during the Ukraine crisis, but also underpins political affairs, peacebuilding operations, and monitoring progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The integration with the Second Administrative Level Boundaries (SALB) programme further strengthens the UN’s ability to work with harmonised administrative units for informed and targeted global interventions.
