    Project Details

In late 2022, Atkins Global tasked Storm Geomatics with conducting a comprehensive survey of the River Avon in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The survey aimed to inform design works for infrastructure development, including the removal of a radial gate, weir, and fish pass, along with the construction of a new footbridge. Facing challenges such as varying river width, limited clearance under bridges, and access restrictions, Storm Geomatics employed a blend of geospatial technologies. By combining bathymetric surveying, total station cross sections, and unmanned surface vehicles equipped with advanced sonar systems, the project successfully delivered rich data on riverbed morphology and topography. This approach not only addressed the complexities of the site but also provided valuable insights for designing sustainable solutions while optimizing efficiency, accuracy, and safety in survey operations.
