    Project Details

The Austrian Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) launched data.bev.gv.at, a national geoportal designed to deliver open geospatial data under FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. The platform enables citizens, businesses, researchers, and government agencies to access authoritative geospatial datasets in standardised, transparent, and interoperable formats. By using a distributed cloud strategy, the system ensures security, resilience, and consistent availability even during heavy demand peaks. The integration of the Creative Commons CC-BY-4.0 license simplifies legal clarity, while embedding DOIs through the DataCite connector ensures persistent dataset identification, semantic classification, and long-term sustainability. The use of the open-source GeoNetwork software also allows BEV to both benefit from and contribute to global community-driven improvements, reducing costs and preventing duplication of effort across institutions.
