Establishment of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for Ukraine

Source: Esri
The National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) of Ukraine represents a landmark achievement in the country’s geospatial modernisation journey. After more than a decade of legislative and institutional effort, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the NSDI Law in April 2020, marking a major step toward data transparency, integration, and governance reform. Managed by StateGeoCadastre and supported by the Research Institute for Geodesy and Cartography, the NSDI initiative consolidates geospatial data from five cities, two oblasts, and 75 amalgamated territorial communities into an interoperable, publicly accessible digital platform. The system ensures that spatial data from multiple administrative levels are standardised, discoverable, and reusable in accordance with EU INSPIRE principles. Beyond improving governance efficiency, the NSDI is designed to stimulate economic growth by reducing redundancy, improving coordination among institutions, and providing a transparent, integrated spatial foundation for national planning and investment.
