In response to Mayotte's rapid urbanization and high population growth, local authorities needed an effective solution to update their outdated urban maps. The island's main city, Mamoudzou, exemplifies the intense building expansion occurring in densely populated areas. Accurate and up-to-date mapping is essential for identifying flood and landslide-prone areas, ensuring public safety, and guiding urban development. Traditional methods relying on aerial imagery are costly and difficult to obtain, prompting the need for a more accessible and precise alternative. To address this, Airbus provided very high-resolution (30cm) satellite imagery from the Pléiades Neo satellites. This imagery, particularly the HD15 advanced product, enhances photo-interpretation capabilities, allowing for detailed discernment of urban features such as roof coverings, sheet-metal structures, and urban furniture.
