To support advanced urban analysis in Poland, the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography provided authoritative national LiDAR data to enhance the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) Urban Atlas Building Block Height product. Previously reliant on optical satellite photogrammetry, the project adopted LiDAR to increase data accuracy and reliability, particularly for building height measurement. Covering core urban areas, this dataset enabled the calculation of precise building block heights, contributing to urban density studies, energy-use modelling, and urban heat island assessments. Additionally, the data supported simple 3D visualisation of buildings, facilitating wide-ranging use in urban planning, pollution modelling, and public health assessments. Through the Copernicus Framework Licence agreement between the European Environment Agency (EEA) and EuroGeographics, the Polish data was integrated into the CORDA database, ensuring seamless pan-European access for Copernicus-related services.
